Sony Xperia Acro S Review - Fast, Waterproof


Sony Xperia Acro S can be categorized as decent high-end smartphone. Not only fast, this Android phone is also resistance to water. Just how good is this phone’s performance?

Xperia Acro S comes with a stylish and elegant Sony typical design. The phone measures 126 x 66 x 11.9 mm with three colors choice: white, black and pink. One of the interesting features of the Xperia acro S is that this smartphone proved to have attained IP5X certification for resistance to dust particles and IPX5/7 for water resistance where the smartphone will be safe although being in the water for 30 minutes at a maximum depth of 1 meter.




Xperia Acro S has an internal memory with capacity of 16 GB. In the internal memory users can use the available 11 GB out of 16 GB of storage to store their data. Sony also provides expandable up to 32 GB external micro SD slot.

Sony Xperia Acro S is equipped with Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon SoC (System on Chips). This chipset features a dual-core Scorpion processor with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz and Andreno 220 GPU. Sony plant 1 GB of RAM to supports the SoC.

Sony Xperia Acro S Interface





In the default condition, the Sony Xperia Acro S have 5 page of homescreen with the main homescreen at number 3. At the bottom of the homescreen, there are icons that can be used to access the main menu (app drawer) and some applications. Homescreen display some widgets that is customizable according to user’s preference.

The main menu or app drawer shows 20 pieces of icons for each page. On the top-right we can find the back to homescreen icon and the icon to perform icon sorting.

Sony Xperia Acro S comes with the Android ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) OS  version 4.0.4. Even so, it turns out Sony has a plan to provide an update for this smartphone’s operating system. Sony will provide this phone to update to version 4.1 (Jelly Bean) in 2013.

Sony Xperia Acro S uses capacitive LED-backlight LCD panel which is quite large, 4.3 inches. The screen has a 1280 × 720 image resolution (342 ppi) with 16 million colors. This Android phone also supports multitouch with 10 touch points on the screen for one-touch. This smartphone has been equipped with Mobile Bravie Engine feature to improve the quality of the display on the screen, especially when watching video content.

The screen is pretty comfortable to use either to navigate through menus or play games. Especially with a 4.3-inch screen size that make this smartphone still comfortable for large-fingered users.

Sony Xperia Acro S Camera


Sony Xperia Acro S have 2 cameras which are rear camera and front camera. Rear camera has a resolution of 12 MP (4000 x 3000 pixels) and front camera has a resolution of 1.3 MP (1280 x 720 pixels). This camera uses Sony’s Exmor R sensor with f/2.4 aperture. With these specs, the camera is capable of producing excellent images both in low-light conditions and normally lighted conditions. There is also LED flash that can be used to help shooting in low light conditions.

Just like the Xperia Ion, Sony Xperia Acro S was equipped with useful options such as focus mode selection (touch focus, auto-area, single-point, and smile detection), scenes, exposure compensation, and white balance presets.

About the performance, Snapdragon S3 dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, and Adreno 220 GPU delivers a pretty nice performance to this smartphone.

High-end games such as Dead Trigger can be played in a “high” level of detail(but not “ultra”) with fairly smooth although sometimes it still feels a little choked up when the player was attacked by a large numbers of zombies.

The 1910 mAh battery on the Xperia Acro S can accompany users to do activities all day with casual uses such as running applications like Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, or browsing.
